I am using Ubuntu 12.04. When I open the external hard drive through Nautilus to access files the window immediately closes.

When I do 'nautilus' in Terminal I get the following:

Initializing nautilus-gdu extension
warning: not enough tile data (2 bytes)
warning: not enough tile data (2 bytes)
..(many more same lines)

Update...

So I finally got my server up and running utilizing Ubuntu 12,04 LTS Server. I copied all that data from the drive to the server in order to allow all computers on the LAN to access it. Configured Samba for the Windows clients and NFS for the Ubuntu clients. Turns out that the same crash happens when opening the networked folder in Nautilus.

Thoughts?

Can you open a Terminal window, type in`nautilus`, press enter, try accessing the disk again, and tell us the output in the Terminal? – searchfgold6789 Jan 21 at 4:39

I believe that its is ether ntfs or fat32. I originally starting using it under a windows operating system. Is there a was to check? – LandArch Jan 21 at 16:55
Linux isn't able to check NTFS or FAT. If you have access to a Windows computer, connect your hard drive there and check the partition. – Paddy Landau Jan 21 at 17:03
