I have a problem that's incredibly annoying. I'm a newcomer to Ubuntu, so please bear with me.
I'm running on an HP Envy 15 with an Intel i7 processor, 8gb ram, so I'm not lacking. The computer has an analogue sound dial.
Ubuntu itself runs fine dual-booted with Windows. The sound driver, I guess, is giving me plenty of headaches, however. I boot up Ubuntu, and it's good to go in seconds. Not the sound, though. I turn the sound knob, and the volume slider on the desktop goes up and down like normal, but there is no audio. Then, about five minutes after the boot, the sound slider acts sporadically and doesn't respond at all when I turn the volume knob click Sound Settings, and everything is greyed out. IFinally, about another fifteen minutes later, the slider starts responding with all kinds of jumps up and down trying to catch up on all my input since the time it quit responding. THEN after another few seconds going up and down catching up, audio plays correctly.
What can I do to fix this?
