Normally in Windows I can do that in Edit>Options>SFTP, but I can't find the option in Ubuntu.

I think compression won't be taken in Filezilla, for both Windows and Ubuntu. – crossroad Mar 10 '13 at 17:00

well there are many compression formats for Ubuntu in FTP by depending upon the filetype.

We have a lot of details thats why I am placing few of them along with their links so you can choose what ever you want.
