I want to keep all the icons included in the gnome 3 icon theme "Ubuntu mono-dark" except the icons which appear when I alter the brightness or sound using fn keys. I haven't found any tutorial about editing gnome 3 icons, so I poked around the icon themes in /usr/share/icons/ubuntu-mono-dark/status but the icons there were not the ones that actually showed up. How do I change icons in an existing theme?
