I just returned to using Ubuntu after a long stint with Fedora and I decided to personalize my Ubuntu 12.10 desktop with compiz. Upon tinkering with Compiz I noticed 2 things that seemed to not work correctly, first the ability to paint fire on the desktop does not work instead of it painting fire the entire desktop dims (like it froze) until I either close the compiz settings manager or log out and back in, second I enabled the desktop cube and it works and rotates fine but when I enable 3D windows and go to rotate the desktop the cube disappears and the background becomes very glitchy. I want to know is the Intel HD Graphics 3000 integrated GPU not sufficient enough to use these effect in Ubuntu 12.10? The last time I worked with Ubuntu was version 11.04 and everything worked fine from what I remember using the classic desktop (which was the safer desktop to use compiz with at the time) so I guess I also have to ask does the Unity desktop play a part in this issue? I know my integrated GPU isn't the best but I'm curious to know why the 2 compiz effects I mentioned don't work right like they have in the past.
