lspci shows

Network controller: RaLink Device 3062

Installed drivers from here http://www.ralinktech.com/support.php?s=2

  • Extracted
  • make
  • make install
  • reboot

ifconfig still doesn't show the Wi-Fi device. What else can I try?

have you tried something like: 

sudo apt-get install iw  
iw phy phy0 interface add wlan0 type managed

ma bad...have you tried following the steps here? Building the thing and placing the old module in the blacklist?
