I have a HP Pavilion dv6700 that I have been using Ubuntu on for several months, currently with 12.04. It is a laptop that had a broken screen, I normally have it connected by VGA to a Samsung SyncMaster 914v monitor.
I bought a Trendnet TK801R KVM switch, and would like to connect all my old machines along with the Pavilion.
All the older computer work and switch well. But the Pavilion does not. If I hotplug attach it (all by VGA) the screen will appear for a few seconds and then go black. If I reboot, sometimes I cannot even reconnect it to the monitor by direct VGA, it takes another reboot to appear.
Using a 10.04 USB stick, I once had it working for 30 mins or so, but upon suspend, it went black again. 11.10 and 12.10 usb sticks only show for a few seconds upon switching plugs. Booting into TTY does not help. Using gnome and gdm does not help. Bios does not load on screen either, not regularly at least.
I have a Windows XP boot disk from forever ago, and when booting into the XP setup the KVM switch does work. I have not booted completely into XP, because it looks like it wants to actually install software and I don't want to lose my current setup.
