Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Just purchased 60 Gb Intel SSD and instaled 12.04 on my old HP nx7400.

After reboot grub: out of disk apeared

I turned computer off and turned on again - no errors - ubuntu loaded. Restarted and again grub: out of disk apeared.

Tried grub install, grub update, boot-repair - everything showed ok and no errors, but after restart it still shows out of disk error. And it happens only when I restart - if I shut down and turn computer on - no errors.

A friend said - in bios change from ahci to legacy mode for the disc - since it is ssd, but i cant find anything like that.

Ofcourse i restart computer only on new kernel update so no big deal but still are there any other ways to fix this?

You might want to have a look at this forum post. It's a bit old, however the topic is about GRUB2 which is the one currently used in Ubuntu 12.04/12.10. Several possible solutions are explained here: ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1331730 –  Steffen Christensen Jan 18 '13 at 15:27
