I set up my new PC with 12.04 and nearly everything is working now. Only my graphics card from Axle3d with the nVidia GT430 chip doesn't work properly.
If I put it into the PCI-slot, there's no problem, but when I install the recommended driver from system settings, ubuntu always starts into the "X-server error mode" or whatever it is called.
So I reset the driver to default and downloaded it from the NVIDIA website. But after installing it, the X-server did completely crash and I always booted to the tty. Now I uninstalled it by using the nVidia tool. Then there was no problem anymore with the X-server, but after logging in, the dock and the starter weren't there anymore! I only could open the terminal, because I have the terminal-shortcut put on my desktop.
What did I do wrong?
