Comparison:

Firefox (Firebug) (DejaVu Sans Mono 9px) (I could be wrong, I'm not very sure):

(G)Vim (DejaVu Sans Mono 10px):

Is there a way of making (G)Vim render fonts like Firefox?

I like gVim's much better, but have you tried changing your font anti-aliasting/hinting settings (re: System > Appearance > Fonts... under "Details")? – frabjous Jan 31 '11 at 17:06
@frabjous Which setting are you using? – janoChen Jan 31 '11 at 17:14
Resolution: 96; Smoothing: Subpixels (LCDs); Hinting: Slight; Subpixel Order: RGB; but (1) I'm not using Ubuntu but ArchLinux with different font packages, and (2) I've got some other custom stuff in my .fonts.conf, and (3) we've already established that my preferences differ from yours. Try various settings and see what you like. – frabjous Jan 31 '11 at 17:21
Not sure but the font in Firefox looks smaller (e.g. compare lowercase 'a'). What happens if you put gVim in 8pt? (Also, am I missing something - gVim looks fine to me? – zpletan Jan 31 '11 at 17:58
@zpletan if I put gVim's in 8px, the letter spacing is very small. – janoChen Feb 5 '11 at 20:27
