Following an unsuccessful download of some sort of Adobe for Ubuntu software, I get error messages Ubuntu Service Center closed unexpectedly and could not determine the package or the package source name:

once, these were expanded to the application update-apt-xapian-index has closed unexpectedly and IOError ('CRC check failed 0x95bfc02a ! =0x720bf44dL')

Any suggestions?

Ubuntu Service Center? Do you mean Ubuntu Software Center? – guntbert Jan 13 at 14:06
Yes, thank you. I can't access either, and get error messages when starting ubuntu that don't allow being reported. – Paul Jan 20 at 13:25
