Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

This may sound like something already covered by this answer on Ubuntu Phones or this question on Ubuntu Mobile OS.

To clarify I know that the system requirements have already been stated by Canonical (here) but I was wondering whether there have been any plans for certification as Ubuntu Phone as they have already done for Ubuntu Desktop or Ubuntu Server on the certification section of Ubuntu.com.

I know Canonical have been keeping the development quite secretive for the time being so this might be difficult to answer, the reasoning behind my question is: "How will users know that their android device isn't locked in some way that prevents Ubuntu from running on it?".

So will there be certification for Ubuntu for Phones and if production of the first phones running Ubuntu is estimated to be in 2013, when could we possibly expect a certification list to be available?

This is a 'feature request', for Canonical to add phones to their existing certification programme. While valid for discussion, it is unlikely to be answered on this forum. – david6 Jan 13 at 9:50
@david6 I might have misphrased it, but I'm not requesting for it to be a feature, I'm asking if a feature similar to it is planned (not necessarily an identical certification program as implied by my original question). – Oyibo Jan 13 at 10:16
