My wireless card light come on and works fine using windows. When I switch to ubuntu operating system the wireless light does not come on. What do I need to type in to turn it on using ubuntu 12.04? Thank you

Can you please attach more information? Different cards have different drivers. Post the result of lsusb and lspci. One of the commands will tell us the model. –  McNisse Jan 12 '13 at 20:22
    
Does your system have a keyboard combination to turn it on/off? (dell uses Fn+F2 for instance, Acer Fn+F3). It might be set to off after a boot :) Could you also include brand and modelnumber of your system? –  Rinzwind Jan 12 '13 at 20:22
