I recently installed Ubuntu 12.10. I have not used Ubuntu since 9.10. It is perfect for a couple of boots after install, but I keep getting an error after about the third time. It says "checkng battery state [ok]" then hangs. Other times, it will then say sdb write cache enabled and won't boot. Other times, it says that my graphics card can not display the resolution.

When it says something about the sdb, which must be my sd card reader, I can get it work with the card inserted at boot. When it says my graphics card is the problem or gets stuck at "checking battery state", I can take out the battery and the power cord (battery usually stays plugged in) for a few seconds and it boots.

I have a toshiba satellite with Intel integrated graphics (I reinstalled the driver that comes with and xserver package) The system is a dual boot with Windows 7. I installed it through wubi and put it in its own partition (save a dvd). I have repartitioned and created an ext3 file system three times and started from wubi all over again in hopes it was a corrupt install.

It may be important to note that I was having a constant remote connect request on windows. This escalated to my comodo firewall crashing and I had to remove a trojan. This kept happening multiple times. ( I have like four antivirus, only one at startup, a separate firewall with very strict settings, VPN, tor, and lots of other stuff, so I am not an easy target.)

Please help me understand what is going on. I am hoping to understand why it is happening, not just looking to fix it. I can include any logs that might help. I want to use linux for internet and Windows for documents.
