I'm trying to install Ubuntu on an older machine. I've tried two complete motherboards, a new power supply, swapped out RAM, and used three different HDD (all SATA drives).
Every time-- I get disk errors. I cannot believe that all three drives are bad-- one of them is right out of the box (though I get a SMART warning that the drive is bad) and two have been used with no issues in other machines for over a year.
The new drive gives me an
I/O error on write every time I begin the install. The other two drives get a good way into the install, but when copying files, suddenly say "The file system is read only".
Any clues what could be wrong?? I've even tried swapping SATA ports and cables. I think this sytem just needs to be scrapped!
