Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I've recently installed Ubuntu 12.10 on a small form factor computer with a dual core Atom 1.86 GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM and a 160 GB SATA HD.

The install was apparently successful (no error messages).

However, on reboot Ubuntu never finishes booting, freezing at various points of what looks like a command line interface:

"Stopping log initial device creation"

or

"Stopping save kernel messages"

I've tried booting several times, just in case it was a momentary quirk.

I'm not sure what to try next.
