I have a problem with an HP-Mini 210 which has a Realtek Ethernet interface and a Broadcom WLAN interface. Now, the problem is that since yesterday after I did an
apt-get update ; apt-get upgrade, the network interface seems not to work anymore.
It stopped working about one hour after I did the update. Now because it's being operated as a webserver I need it back up as fast as possible. Could you help me out on that?
The ethernet interface seems to appear and disapear in
lspci sporadically. I don't think it is a hardware problem though. I've managed to get it to show up in
But in Ubuntu 12.04 which I'm using on this machine I'm kinda confused about the Network-Manager thing which runs with dnsmasq, and the regular old known /etc/network/interfaces configuration way. They seem to operate independently. I got confused about the two, and because I'm more experienced with the command line way I removed Network-Manager and dnsmasq, but it didn't help.
Now the interface again doesn't show up, neither in
ifconfig nor in
lspci. I didn't manage to get wifi to work either, so i don't have any network connection on that device at all now, and therefore can't reinstall Network-Manager and dnsmasq.
Was that a real big mistake or can I still rescue that machine and if yes how?
