I am having trouble updating Ubuntu 12.10. It keep giving me

Failed to download repository information. Check your internet connection.

My computer is connected to the internet and it still gives me the error.

It also gives me "details" that I don't understand.

Can someone help me fix this. Thank you! P.S. I am running Ubuntu 12.10 64-Bit on an Asus AMD laptop. Date of error: 1/5/13

It looks very much like either the file /etc/apt/sources.list or one of the files in the folder /etc/apt/sources.list.d is corrupt or contains an invalid line. To solve this problem, please look at the solutions given in this question.
