There are either too many possible answers, or good answers would be too long for this format. Please add details to narrow the answer set or to isolate an issue that can be answered in a few paragraphs. If this question can be reworded to fit the rules in the help center, please edit the question.

Please ask these as seperate questions, the site is designed for one question per post! –  Jorge Castro Jan 5 '13 at 18:33

Sorry, and thanks for the info. I am new here. I will do it that way from now on. I will leave this thread open for now since people are already answering. –  user119046 Jan 5 '13 at 18:47

As @JorgeCastro said, one question per post. Additional note, try searching the site before asking. All three of these are duplicates: date-time applet askubuntu.com/questions/723/… minimize all askubuntu.com/questions/28086/… nautilus view askubuntu.com/questions/272413/show-folder-in-list-by-default –  hbdgaf Dec 15 '13 at 10:36

When working with the file manager, the icon view is the default. How do I make list view the default?

Open Nautilus>Edit>Preferences>Choose List view, it's the very first drop-down list.

In the upper right corner of the screen, I see the time. I would like to see date and time. How do I do that?

Go to System Settings>Date and Time, choose the correspondent option.

What is the quickest way to minimize everything and see the desktop?

Control+Super+D

@user119046 Click the Home Folder icon (the File Manager is called Nautilus). –  Uri Herrera Jan 5 '13 at 18:46
