I have Kubuntu. my Amarok plays but with no sound, I googled this problem and found some solutions :

  1. Installing phonon-xine-backend
I couldn't install that. atp-get said there is no candidate for this download.

  2. I found a source in apt-get.org , i tried to add it in sources.list but when i tried apt-get update ,

    source: deb http://www.debian-desktop.org/pub/linux/debian/kde42 lenny kde424

    error:

GPG error: http://www.debian-desktop.org lenny Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 862787C80BF795DC

  3. I tried to download phonon-backend-xine from here :

    packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/phonon-backend-xine

I installed it but it had unmet dependencies.

  4. I installed gstreamer and vlc backends but again no sound.
