On upgrading from 11.10 to 12.04 the Compro S350 Satellite card and the Hauppaugge HVR-1300 were both working - after the upgrade neither are working in Kaffeine.

Both cards are visible in lsusb, lspci, dmesg etc., how can I get it to work again?

Multiple reboots later, and neither card works with VLC, Kaffeine or Xine - or any other application. Both were working fine in 11.10. Any clues as to where to start looking? Any ideas would be most welcome. – user98415 Jan 5 at 11:22
Just tried upgrading to 12.10 to see if that would work, and now I have no TV cards, and the NVidia GeForce 8400 card that was giving a high resolution display now is reduced to about half the resolution. What is wrong - please help? – user98415 Jan 6 at 18:28
