I've been messing around with window managers and I decided to see if I could boot into Ubuntu 12.04 in text mode and then start up Unity manually. The way I ended up doing this was changing
quiet splash in
text, which got me into text mode. Then to start unity, I added the line
unity into my .xinitrc and ran
startx. Unity started up, but now there are issues with the screen not drawing correctly.
For example, if I open up google chrome, the chrome window doesn't completely display, but if I move my mouse over where the window is supposed to be that part of the window gets drawn. I'm not able to screenshot behavior as the screenshot takes a picture of the correct screen, and not what I'm seeing, which is the screen that hasn't been refreshed. Note that everything works fine when booting normally (booting into graphical mode).
Does anyone know what's going on?
