Just put an HTPC into my home theater, which coincides with my first ever Ubuntu install. Everything is coming along, but the resolution is all wrong. The HDTV is 1080p, but it appears to have some overscan because I can't see the top menu bar or the icons on the left dock.
Unfortunately I picked the TV up off of a friend on the cheap, and it doesn't have the remote so I can't go into the TV preferences to search for a solution.
This machine was originally a hackintosh, which provided the ability to "underscan" within display preferences. I don't see that option anywhere in the Display GUI.
I've come across the xrandr command -- wondering if a custom resolution might be the fix.
