I am using Linux Mint 14 (MATE) with Cinnamon installed.

Cinnamon failed when I tried to delete an item on the menu with menu editor.

The system freezed, so I logged out by pressing ctrl+alt+del.

When I logged back in, the desktop panel was not loaded (shortcuts were there as normal, right click works as well). I can barely do anyting but get the terminal with ctrl+alt+t. But all the dialogue windows are presented without any frames.

Here are the screenshots (I have no enough reputation to post image here, sorry):

I tried reinstalling cinnamon in the MATE desktop interface (it works fine) but failed to solve the problem.

Thanks

Sorry, but Linux Mint is off-topic here. – Javier Rivera Jan 2 at 12:21
@Javier Rivera: Sorry, I am no expert in Linux distros, I thought Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu. I have saved my post. If it is inappropriate here, please delete or close it. Thanks. – Lagrange Jan 2 at 12:39
@Lagrange - Hi and welcome to Ask Ubuntu. Non-official ubuntu variants are off-topic as per the FAQ. However, this would be on-topic with our fellow SE site - Unix & Linux. Thanks. – fossfreedom Jan 2 at 13:53

I am not an expert, but maybe deleting the .gtkrc file from your $HOME directory may help. After you do that, log out and then log back in. iSeth helped me solve a similar issue this way. The other thing is using the CompizConfig settings manager (if it's installed) to switch between GTK and Metacity.
