Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I recently installed Ubuntu 12.10 to play around with Ruby. But after a couple of weeks, I can no longer boot into my Windows 7. It gives me a blue screen saying with error message "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". I can boot into windows in safe mode, and ubuntu is still fine.

One other anomaly. I can't shutdown ubuntu completely. It shows the ubuntu logo in the middle, and the computer stays on. After powering off manually a couple of times, I started not being able to boot into windows.

Any help is appreciated!

sounds like a hardware issue. grab your live CD/DVD or USB and try to boot your computer – Ringtail Jan 1 at 6:00
