Updated to 12.04 a number of weeks ago and all has been fine until today, when it got stuck on the log-in page. Tried all the suggestions I could find (ctrl-alt-f1 to log in etc) but nothing worked... then I realised that the keyboard wasn't actually working. Used the onscreed keyboard to log in, then re-booted...

This time all three keyboard lights came on and stayed on, keyboard still not recognised. Shut down the system and the keyboard lights remained on even after complete power-down... I pysucally un-plugged the keyboard, waited for the lights to go out, re-plugged it and re-booted... everything now works fine, even after a couple of re-boots and shutdowns...

Has anyone come across this before?

@Michal-Whitley: By your last sentence, it seems everything works fine. Do you still need answers or is it that I misunderstood something? – Jobin Dec 30 '12 at 18:26
