I have a new Inspiron 14z with an Intel Core i7-3517U
I'm trying to install Ubuntu on it and it seems like nothing is working. I tried 12.10 from the DVD first and the installation crapped out, got farther by switching to legacy boot mode, but I can't get beyond partitioning the drive.
I've seen some questions about that on here with similar problems--basically the installer doesn't see any partitions on the drive, regardless of whether I create one for the installer to use or just leave unformatted free space. This happens for both 12.10 and 12.04 (which is supposedly certified for my computer). Finally, I've tried a Wubi install for both of these versions, and as soon as I restart into ubuntu I get a fatal error saying that it can't find the wubildr.mbr file, even though that file does exist in C/ubuntu/winboot.
So, I am lost. Does ubuntu just not support my hardware or am I missing something? Thanks for any help
