I have a new Lenovo T430s with Windows 8 OS. I installed VirtualBox and use an SDHC card as the drive D:\ to store the VirtualBox. I installed Ubuntu 12.10 using the downloaded Ubtuntu-12.10.10-desktop-i386 in the VirtualBox in drive D:. The installation proceeded normally, and there was the message at the end of the installation saying 

"compiz stopping unexpectedly"

and when I proceed further, I could get the loginin screen and get only a blank Ubuntu page with no Ubuntu functions. I cannot get a window to do any diagnostic or modify the system.

I note that this "compiz stopping" problem has been posted in the Internet from many users. Is there a fix to this problem?

Try 12.04 LTS. If it doesn't help, install a non-compiz DE and debug from inside. – mreq Dec 28 '12 at 15:20
