If I install the latest Guest Additions with VirtualBox 4.2.6 on Ubuntu 12.10 guest I'm not seeing the "building the shared folder module" message in my terminal. I think I should see this in order to have this component installed properly.

I've installed these packages: dkms, build-essential, linux-headers-generic and I ran apt-get update from the terminal according to these tutorials:

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit as a host with Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit as a guest.

Solution:For anyone who is having the same problem I am, I was able to solve my problem by following this tutorial here:7tutorials.com/how-access-ubuntu-shared-folders-windows-7 –  Wormhole99 Dec 28 '12 at 15:01

That's a general way of sharing folders, not very efficient and VirtualBox-specific. I consider this to be a workaround. However, you should add is as an answer (and include the essential steps to take). –  gertvdijk Dec 28 '12 at 15:23

Are you able to mount your shared folder using vboxsf? Consult /var/log/vboxadd-install.log for successful installation or errors. –  Takkat Dec 28 '12 at 23:47
