My setup is this:
VMware Workstation 9.0.1
Windows 8 64bit host
Ubuntu 12.10 64bit guest
The problem:
I have a collection of torrents on my Windows 8 that I'd like to port to Ubuntu guest and keep seeding. The torrents sit in 3TB NTFS HDD partition which Ubuntu accesses using VMware tools. When I try to recheck torrents Ubuntu torrent client some of the torrents are fine, however some of them don't recheck:
- sometimes when I try to recheck nothing happens, no log
- sometimes I get some ambiguous "I/O error" with no further explanation
if I skip hash checking when importing existing torrent, I usually get file not found
or something like that.
Torrent clients I've tried so far: qBittorrent, deluge, Ktorrent, Vuze, Transmission. All of them latest versions.
What could be the reason behind this problem? Is it VMware? Is it Ubuntu and NTFS problem? I've spent 3 days scouring the web for an answer, my last hope is that someone here encountered similar problem.
UPDATE: While I was digging further, I was able to pull some error out of qbittorrent:
user@ubuntu:~$ qbittorrent --no-splash
Couldn't set environment variable...
gvfs-open: file:///home/user/Desktop/D/My%20Downloads/torrent folder.: error opening location: Error when getting information for file '/home/user/Desktop/D/torrent folder.': No such file or directory
It seems as if the torrent client can't find a folder, although it is clearly there. Another odd thing is that it also adds a dot to the end of the folder name.
