On my Ubuntu 12.04.1 server I've installed CUPS and Samba. My printer is a HP Color Laserjet 1600 (connected using USB) and it's plugged in, powered on.

  1. Samba file sharing works very well, however no printers appear on the LAN.

Can I install a printer to the server so I can print out configuration files & other info? This would be great for troubleshooting. Followed directions in Server Guide page 281. Still no printer appears. Tried various suggestions in Ubuntu website & other sources, which didn't help me out. Can you help?

  2. How can I configure the server to auto-mount the shared drives at boot? There again no info in the Server Guide or other sources.

First of all, you're asking two completely independent questions. Secondly, please show (copy/paste) your current configurations (Samba & CUPS). Thirdly, mounting happens at the guests/clients in the network, so I don't understand your second question. Fourthly, please link and sum up the things you've already tried. It's rather vague now and will not help answering your question. – gertvdijk Dec 28 '12 at 11:40
