I have an Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit system, where I have two
sda1 is an unencrypted
ext2 boot partition and
sda5 is an LVM2 encrypted disk containing the root filesystem,
/home, and so forth.
Until yesterday I was able to log in without problems. Today onwards I was not able to log in (no typo mistake). Login always fails. Passphrase and decrypt is going through, but login fails. It gives a message
/dev/mapper/sda5_crypt is inactive while booting.
But if I mount this disk using 12.04 live CD it works fine, after mounting the encrypted lvm partition, I did
chroot mount_point /bin/bash and then ran
login. I was able log in to the system with my username and password.
Any idea why it is not logging while normal boot? What does
/dev/mapper/sda5_crypt is inactive mean?
