When I want to install a program, I'm unable to. For example:

 pooya@pooya:~$ sudo apt-get install vlc
debconf: apt-extracttemplates failed: No such file or directory
 Extracting templates from packages: 100%
dpkg: error: failed to open package info file `/var/lib/dpkg/available' for reading: No such file or directory
 E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)

And what's the output of ls -l /var/lib/dpkg? Maybe this is what happened. –  sierrasdetandil Dec 27 '12 at 16:34
