I installed Xubuntu 12.10 (clean install), but prefer LibreOffice over AbiWord.
So... I installed these packages in this order (sudo apt-get install xxx)
- openjdk-7-jdk -- because I want to do some Java puttering, and want OpenJDK not Gnu.
When I doubleclick on a .doc file, say, the spash comes up, shows a couple pixels of progress in the progress bar, then crashes.
Running any of the LibreOffice programs from a command prompt gets me this error:
iain@iain-Aspire-one:~$ lowriter [Java framework] Error in function createSettingsDocument (elements.cxx). javaldx failed! Warning: failed to read path from javaldx terminate called after throwing an instance of 'com::sun::star::uno::RuntimeException'
I'd like very much to use LibreOffice. How do I install the thing?
I dropped a tactical nuke on this problem and rendered the question moot. Because it was a fresh install and my backup was still good, I just booted from the stick again and did a new clean install.
I remember now I installed libreoffice-gtk, then the -writer, -draw, etc. Then installed openjdk-7-jdk, and LO seemed to be fine. Then I installed the libreoffice metapackage, and it seemed to screw everything up.
This time, I installed libreoffice first, openjdk-7-jdk second, and all seems well.
