I would like to raise two issues regarding keyboard usage as relating to being able to quickly write in Maltese with just about any keyboard
I have read this information. I would like to enter small h strikeout and capital h strikeout so that I can write Maltese a bit quicker. The line strikes through unlike the bar used over a letter such as in statistics to denote an average or something like that.
I see nothing on the compose combinations on wikipedia that allows this.
Changing keyboard layout via System Settings -> Keyboard Layout is cool enough, but for someone already used to US/UK keyboard settings it can take some time to get up to speed.
I think it would make sense if the overstrike h could be generated as + + h, or, if this combination is already used to generate the bar above the h, then = could be used instead of the - to generate the strikeout on the h.
I could use the Unicode Sequences U+0126 and U+127 for h- and H-, which involves a bit more typing and is less visually meaningful.
I would be delighted if we could add one of these compose sequences to this wikipedia page and make them work on ubuntu either by default (after choosing the compose key, eg. left-alt), or by configuring this sequence. In the meantime, how can this be configured by hand?
I was thinking of another solution, which would be even faster, but again I am not sure how to achieve it. In the upper right there is a keypad. I want to use the following key mappings, which could be configured in vim but since I also use libreoffice I would like them to work at the global level:
keypad / -> ċ keypad * -> Ċ keypad 8 -> ġ keypad 9 -> Ġ keypad 5 -> ħ keypad 6 -> Ħ keypad 2 -> ż keypad 3 -> Ż
This would generate by far the speediest keyboard configuration for writing in the Maltese language, for keyboards equipped with a keypad and for those who are already used to an existing configuration.
