I just recently set up a public folder and placed a video in it. It plays fine when playing from the public folder, but when I try to play it from over the network, I get the following error:

File reading failed:
VLC could not open the file "/home/forge/.gvfs/media on forge/Video.avi". (Permission denied)
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'file:///home/forge/.gvfs/media%20on%20forge/Video.avi'. Check the log for details.

I've also put a text file in there, but that opens without issue. Any ideas?

Edit: I can also play a music file from there, but still can't play a video file
