Since upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal my Genius GE111 webcam does not work on Skype. It works fine on Cheese. Can somebody please help?

possible duplicate of Skype video not working after upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04 –  Tom Brossman Dec 23 '12 at 9:53
@EliahKagan OP cross-posted this as an 'answer' there (now deleted) so I flagged it as a dupe. They clearly saw this as a similar issue. Further, OP has posted another exact dupe here. We have no shortage of 'Webcam not working in Skype' questions now, this is a dupe of several. Please flag it as a dupe of another one if you find a better match, thanks. –  Tom Brossman Dec 23 '12 at 13:01
@TomBrossman The OP posted this as an answer to that question, I (and others) flagged it, I commented on it, and fossfreedom removed it. Whether Langjan posted this question before or after, that doesn't mean this question is a duplicate of that. For someone using AU like a forum (which it isn't), it would make sense to post about this there because it is similar. That doesn't mean they're sufficiently similar for this to be a duplicate. That question is about a problem arising from changes made between 11.10 and 12.04; this a is different question. –  Eliah Kagan Dec 23 '12 at 13:44
@EliahKagan We'll agree to disagree then. I maintain it's similar enough to be a dupe and voted accordingly. I don't believe questions involving different versions of Ubuntu are automatically not dupes, if the Ubuntu version is the only difference. There has to be more to distinguish it. If you know of a specific change made between 12.04 and 12.10 that could explain the problem here, please post it as an answer (or at least a comment). –  Tom Brossman Dec 23 '12 at 14:21
Well perceived - the 11.10 to 12.04 solutions do not apply. The webcam was working fine on 12.04, but went dead on the 12.10 upgrade. –  Langjan Jan 9 '13 at 20:38
