I built a computer using ASUS M5A99X Evo motherboard, Corsair Vengeance Blu 8GB memory, and the Radeon HD 6450 in Nov, 2011. I put Windows 7 on it, then installed Ubuntu 11.10. Herringbone pattern appeared, and nothing else.
I then installed 10.4 LTS, and it worked fine. How can I upgrade to latest version and actually have it work. When I had failure installing last year, the live CD worked just fine. It is frustrating to have the sample version work fine, but the actual version, once installed, to not work. If I had poor graphics, I might be able to follow some upgrading instructions, but if there is nothing but a herringbone pattern on the screen, I am unable to see what to do.
I see in Update Manager that release 12.04.1 LTS is available, but I fear ruining my current setup if I apply the release. Any suggestions?
