When I plug my zte device ubuntu sees it asks for password accepts it a notification appears at the bottom but nothing happens. When I enter network settings the options button is disabled for mobile broadband. I tried to downgrade modemmanager to 5.2.0 but it didin't work. How can I solve this.

First, you need to make sure that Ubuntu can see your mobile broadband dongle. Please edit your question and paste the output from the command "sudo lsusb" –  fabricator4 Dec 21 '12 at 21:19

It's being recognised and is listed in the last line. Have you gone into "Edit Connections" and set up a connection to work with your providor? You probably wouln't want to downgrade ModemManager. The program that controls connections is Network Manager and the current version is 0.9.6.0 in 12.10 –  fabricator4 Dec 21 '12 at 21:46
