You can't go to most PC Hardware Stores and ask this. They only know most of the time the basic stuff (Is it compatible with Windows XP or Windows 7?, Does it need a 2.4GHz CPU?, Does it need 4GB of RAM...)

Most if not all (Ballpark figure is around 99.99%) of the motherboards are compatible with Linux, hence, compatible with Ubuntu. And I am pretty sure all motherboards that support a 1155 Socket are compatible with Ubuntu. Heck, even sockets 1366 and 2011 are compatible with Ubuntu.

The problem here is more of a "market" thing. Most products will say:

"Compatible With Windows 7 32 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 21 256 Bit and Mac OS".

They will however not say (In most cases):

"Compatible with Ubuntu" or "Compatible with Linux" as it should be.

So yeah, go buy any motherboard that has a 1155 socket and pair it with any Processor you want that is 1155 also, including any compatible Intel Celeron. Ubuntu will just work out of the box.
