How long does it take ubuntu 12.10 to install? It has been over an hour and a half. It says installing but nothing is happening.

If you are connected to internet it downloads language files & updated repos which takes long time. Offline installation takes 10 min. :) – Web-E Dec 18 '12 at 4:46
Thanks, I am connected to internet and I did check the box to do updates. – Randal Dec 18 '12 at 4:51
What type of internet connection are you using? What is your regular internet speed? – saji89 Dec 18 '12 at 5:35
It would help us if you tell us exactly what messages are on screen. Also if these messages change over time. – jippie Dec 18 '12 at 7:55

Depending on what you checked at the beginning of the installation (download updates or not), the installation time may vary from 30 minutes to two hours approx, unless your internet connection is somewhat slow.

I want to thank everyone for responding and being willing to help. I also want to apologize for taking so long to get back to everyone. I am happy to report that Ubuntu is fully installed on my computer and even though I have only had it for two days now I am liking it very much. The problem was my hard drive had been password protected and I didn't realize that. Once I removed the password Ubuntu installed without any problem at all. I'm no computer expert and I didn't even know you could password protect a hard drive.

Once again I really do thank each of you for being willing to help.
