When trying to open a pdf file in nautilus and selecting "Open with Document Viewer" (aka evince") nothing happens. From the terminal "$ evince file.pdf" gives the message "Bad substitution". Other pdf viewers (mupdf, pdf-presenter-council) function OK. What to try next to find what's ailing evince?
