Can any one tell me how to set a custom resolution in xorg.conf with an Nvidia card ?

Here is my option from the screen section of xorg.conf,

Option "metamodes" "1840x1048_60 +0+0"

but the resolution will not change to this and always sets 1920x1080 on boot.

Please help

Why would you want to set a weird resolution like that? –  dobey Dec 10 '12 at 15:02
To fix overscan on my HDTV, this is the resolution I set windows to using Nvidia settings but the option for overscan has been removed from the driver for Ubuntu. –  mark kirby Dec 10 '12 at 15:23
