I have a Synology DiskStation NAS that I occasionally mount with my Ubuntu 12.04.1 laptop. To mount it, I open Nautilus (3.4.2), click Browse Network, double-click the DiskStation, and enter my credentials.
Everything is fine until I close the lid on my laptop. Then, after I enter my password and return to the desktop, the NAS directories are inaccessible. I get either timeouts or errors, I forget which.
If I unmount the DiskStation's shares with the eject button in Nautilus, I see the remote directories disappear, but I can't mount them again.
The mount command showed what appeared to be the remote share in ~/.gvfs (gvfs-fuse-daemon on /home/randall/.gvfs type fuse.gvfs-fuse-daemon (rw,nosuid, nodev, user=randall)), so I tried sudo umount /home/randall/.gvfs. The fuse-daemon line disappeared, but I still cannot mount the NAS.
Yes, I am sure that if I reboot things will work again, but I'd rather not have to reboot if I close the lid or the machine falls asleep. This is Unix after all. :)
