When i run the gnome desktop all I see is blue. I am running 12.04.1 LTS on an IBM thinkpad t42. I had the same problem with cinnamon until I switched to the 2D verision. Is there a 2D gnome. I think it might have something to do with graphic drives but I don't know for sure.
