I am currently trying to set up a LAN network b/w 2 ubuntu laptops, using 10.10 and 12.04. How should I do it? Please give detailed steps and such, as I am a complete novice to Ubuntu. And it requires to be done only on Ubuntu and not W7. Hence I'm not using it. Also, after this, I will expand to include 5 computers all running on Ubuntu 12.10. How should I go about it??

What are you trying to achieve?. Sharing files between the computers?. –  Javier Rivera Dec 3 '12 at 11:26

Do you own a router or hub? Then just run cables to the hub from each machine and connect to each machine's IP address as needed. If you need more help, please comment so. –  hexafraction Dec 3 '12 at 12:26

If your network is already set up, just right-click a folder > Sharing options > Share this folder, from the other laptop click Browse Network on any nautilus window and you should see the other computer there. –  Vítor Manfredini Dec 3 '12 at 15:29
