I have ubuntu 12.10 on ThinkPad Edge E530. I guess it has Synaptics touchpad, but it's not detected at all. Tried xinput:

~$ xinput
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ Logitech USB Optical Mouse id=9 [slave pointer (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3 [master keyboard (2)]
↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Power Button id=6 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Video Bus id=7 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Power Button id=8 [slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Integrated Camera id=10 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=11 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ ThinkPad Extra Buttons id=12 [slave keyboard (3)]

Tried this instructions https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection but I'm stuck because I don't see anything related to touchpad in the following output:

My touchpad is disabled in the BIOS, which I prefer. Is yours? –  chili555 Dec 2 '12 at 16:53

@chili555 looked all over it and didn't find such option. –  Mighter Dec 2 '12 at 17:05
