Installed 12.10 but I cannot login. It just loops back to the login every time. Either that or it displays only my wallpaper, no icons/time/power, and then loops back to the login. I cant use Ctrl+Alt+F1-F6 to get to console either, just doesn't do anything.

Can you select a "failsafe" session from the session selector in the login screen? And please explain the "just doesn't do anything". Is there no tty active on VT1-6? – gertvdijk Dec 4 '12 at 15:26
I am having the same exact problem after upgrading from 12.04 – Amelio Vazquez-Reina Jan 8 '13 at 17:06
