So I tried to install ubuntu on this years ago but it didnt work (this was before i understood the joys of linux). It failed to boot and came up with the gnu grub 1.99 command prompt thing. I gave up at this point and went back to windows for a few years.
So now I'v installed Ubuntu in the last couple of months on other PCs and am a massive fan but still a complete newbie.
So now I'v gone back to Toshiba, and I tried to install ubuntu again, first tried 12.04LTS and 12.10 and couldn't get them to work (from cd, starts loading then goes to a loading screen which just fades to white and then becomes unresponsive), finally got ubuntu to start installing through the wubi application in XP (with a lubuntu desktop but i doubt that matters). It got as far as telling me to reboot and when I did I chose Lubuntu in the start up and it went straight back to the gnu grub command prompt, only this time version 2.0 instead of 1.99. i noticed the PC doesnt have a BIOS screen accessible from start up. and the bootloader with the options of xp or lubuntu is different to normal boot screen (black and white ms dos style).
When I choose Lubuntu it says something like
Try (hd,0), NTFS5. Then error comes up real quick and it goes to the gnu grub screen.
