I cannot choose to install Ubuntu on my hardrive. I have a single hardrive and i'm installing it on my laptop. When I plug in a USB the standard installer from an Ubuntu disk allows me to choose to install it to my USB but not my hard drive. When my USB is not inserted there is no option to continue after I choose to install alongside windows 8 only a cancel option, back option and restart option. Any help to allow me to install ubuntu would be great

but your Win8 installation exist on your single hard drive already? –  swift Nov 30 '12 at 12:00

Most likely the partitioner is not able to add another partition to the drive because there is already four on the drive. To help us see what is going on please boot off the LiveCD and select "try ubuntu" Next open a terminal windows with <Ctrl><Alt><t> and paste the results from the following commands into your question: "fdisk -l" and "blkid" Tnx –  fabricator4 Dec 4 '12 at 11:56
